Doubt regarding providing private key
Hello,I represent minglebox.com and we use S3 for serving all our media. We are interested in exploring S3Stat but have a doubt.Since all of our media sits on S3, a substantial part of our business, we are wary in providing the private key to S3Stat.Is it possible that I create a bucket and enable the logs etc. and provide you access to pull and parse that data. Of course, the entire design of the site is possibly around this but giving out the private key leaves us in a tight spot.Please let me know if we could somehow work it out.
That's certainly understandable. You're not alone in being hesitant to give out your S3 credentials to a 3rd party, regardless of their good intentions.If you're interested (and have a Windows machine on your network), we are currently running a private Beta of the standalone version of S3stat. Since all the interaction with S3 happens from your own server, you wouldn't need to give out your credentials in order to use it. I'd be happy to let you try it out.For what it's worth, we do get a good number of requests for a version of the hosted service that doesn't require your S3 credentials. Now that 3rd party tools such as BucketExplorer allow you to set up logging without any hassle, we've been reassessing whether it's worthwhile to go ahead and build in a "paranoid mode". I'll take your post as a vote in favor, and I'll definitely let you know if and when it becomes available.
